Voluntary Activities
To be considered a voluntary activity, all of the following conditions must be met:
The SA must not be required to report back to a coach or other athletics department staff member (strength coach, trainer, etc.) any information related to the activity;
The activity must be initiated and requested solely by the SA. Neither the institution nor any athletics department staff member may require the SA to participate in the activity at any time;
The SA's attendance and participation in the activity (or lack thereof) may not be recorded for the purposes of reporting such information to coaching staff members or other student-athletes; and
The SA may not be subjected to penalty if he/she elects not to participate in the activity. In addition, neither the institution nor any athletics department staff member may provide recognition or incentives to a SA based on his or her attendance or performance in the activity.
Gambling
NCAA regulations prohibit student-athletes and the athletics department staff members from engaging in the following: Providing information to individuals involved in organized gambling activities concerning intercollegiate athletics competition;
Soliciting a bet on any intercollegiate team;
Accepting a bet on any team representing the institution;
Soliciting or accepting a bet on any intercollegiate competition for any item (e.g., cash, shirt, dinner) that has tangible value; or
Participating in any gambling activity that involves intercollegiate athletics or professional athletics through a bookmaker, a parlay card, or any other method employed by organized gambling.
