NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's swimming and diving program will host its first-ever collegiate meet in the Wellness and Events Center (WEC) Natatorium on Saturday, January 27 at 11am when the Highlanders host the Hawks from Monmouth.
Opening Ceremony and Senior Recognition will begin at 10:45am on the pool deck.
Saturday will mark the first home meet outside the Fleisher Athletic Center for the NJIT men's swimming and diving program, since November 10, 2017, when the Highlanders defeated visiting St. Francis Brooklyn and Manhattan.
"We are beyond excited and grateful to move into our new Natatorium this upcoming weekend," head coach
Michael Lawson commented. "This facility has been in the works for many years and is a testament to the hard work of our past and current student-athletes and NJIT family. It is one of the best Mid-Major Division I Facilities to come online and we are looking forward to some fast swims and spectacular diving this Saturday."
Wellness and Events Center
The design of the three-story, 220,000-square-foot building features a number of flexible spaces that can be quickly configured to support the numerous and varied missions of the university community.
The WEC will accommodate the rapid growth of the school's athletic department, student body, and campus community. In addition to a number of conference, academic, and community facilities, the building will house a first-class basketball arena, natatorium, locker rooms, indoor track, concessions, suites, offices, and a fitness center.
The Natatorium is a 25-yard championship style eight lane pool, with 1 & 3 meter diving boards that has overwater spotting rigging. The Natatorium also includes: Xcellerator starting blocks with reaction pads and adjustable back wedge, championship style Colorado Timing System, LED full color video board and a 350-person spectator mezzanine seating area.
