NEWARK, NJ—Indoor Track and Field athletes
Calvin Gould,
Alex Ortega and
Shannon Turner have been selected to the 2017 ASUN Conference Indoor Track and Field All-Academic team the conference office announced Tuesday.
Gould, a sophomore from Ringwood, NJ, was a unanimous selection, holding a 3.79 GPA majoring in civil engineering. Gould recorded a third-place finish at the 2017 ASUN Indoor Track and Field Championships in the men's pole vault, with a height of 4.46m. The 4.46m is also a new NJIT school record.
Ortega, a junior from North Bergen, NJ, majoring in mechanical engineering, holds a 3.73 GPA. Ortega broke four NJIT school-records this season in the 500m (1:05.40), 800m (1:56.46), 4x400 relay and 4x800 relay.
He ran a collegiate best in 55HH and 60HH with a time of 8.65. The junior recorded a season best in the 400m (49.90) early in the season.
Turner a sophomore from Glenwood, NJ, was a unanimous selection with a 4.0 GPA, majoring in chemical engineering.
Turner, who spent the Fall semester and the early part of the indoor season, recovering from surgery to repair her torn meniscus, bounced back and hit a season best in the women's weight throw at the 2017 ASUN Indoor Track and Field Championships.
