Read Winfield Willis's blog about his experience so far in Belgium. Willis is a sophomore from Baltimore, Maryland who is majoring in international business.
Here is the fifth blog of the trip:
We are live from Ghent, Belgium… Enjoying LIFE.
I have the pleasure of telling my point of view on this trip. I have fallen in love with every European city and lifestyle we have experienced. The trip has been amazing and every city has something great to offer. Every day I can't believe I am here and I am trying to soak it all in while staying focused for the games.
Today we woke up early to take a walking tour around Ghent. We found out that this city is really old and most buildings date back to the year 1000. We had a chance to actually explore a castle that was occupied by a count that controlled the area.
We also got to go into the St. Nicholas Cathedral. The cathedral had a lot of priceless artifacts. Instead of taking pictures, I chose to respect the space and just look around. I feel like the cathedral is something you can't appreciate through a picture.
Damon Lynn, Tim Coleman, and I went to an awesome pasta restaurant called "De Kastart." The portions were really big and the food was excellent.
I walked around the city by myself to explore. Despite the old feel, of the city it is also very modern. I saw the modern buildings when I found a mall and library a couple miles away from the hotel. Everywhere I went around the city, the people were friendly.
We played a smart Brussels team on Friday. I felt we could have pulled the game
out; you can tell our guys want to win.
I feel like we have such a high ceiling and I am ready to take the journey with my teammates because I believe we can have the best season NJIT has ever had. I have really bonded with my teammates over this trip and I love the personalities we have.
We are off to Paris, ready to finish strong.
