FARMVILLE, VA – Newcomers Angel Gomez and Nils Warfving were honored by the Atlantic Soccer Conference as Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday evening.
Gomez, a junior from Barcelona Spain, scored twice in his NJIT debut in a 4-3 overtime loss at Long Island on September 1. The 6-foot-3 transfer from Missouri Valley College knotted the match a 1-1 in the 28th minute and collected his second goal with 43 seconds remaining in the contest to force overtime.
Warfving, a freshman from Angelholm, Sweden recorded a goal in each contest last week for the Highlanders. His first collegiate goal was scored against Long Island in the 28th minute to give NJIT a 2-1 lead. Warfving's goal came 27 seconds after Gomez tied the match. He scored his second goal of the season 31 seconds into the contest against Army on September 4.
Adelphi's Thorne Holder was named Goalkeeper of the Week notching a pair of shutouts last week against Fordham and Syracuse.
Next up for the Highlanders is an away game against Albany on Wednesday at 4 pm in upstate New York.
