NJIT Captures Four Individual Titles at 2010 Wagner Invitational

STATEN ISLAND, NY –
Four different track and field athletes claimed individual titles for NJIT Saturday afternoon at the 2010 Wagner Invitational.

 

Sophomore Christian Baumbach took first in the men's 5000 meter run for NJIT with a time of 15:03.00.  Highlander Pierre Damis collected a first-place finish in the men's 110 meter hurdles with a 16.13 mark.

 

Jumper Xavier Lee set two NJIT school-records Saturday in the men's high jump and triple jump.  Lee placed third in both events – high jump (6-2) and triple jump (12.36m).

 

Freshman Tim Esposito set a new NJIT freshman record in the men's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 58.66, good for third place.

 

NJIT hurdler Nicole Kerrison placed first in the women's 400 meter hurdles at 1:10.01 while sophomore Vanessa Escalera won the women's 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:47.70.

 

Freshman distance runner Ewelina Marut finished second in the women's 5000 meter run with a time of 19:53.00.   Marut was also a member of the women's 4x800 relay which broke the NJIT school-record with a time of 11:05.10.  The relay consisted of Christina Roque, Megan Higgins and Escalera.

 

Both track and field teams will return to action on Saturday at the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational.
