Women's Basketball Reaches Out to the Community
Women's Basketball Team at the Burnet Street Elementary/Middle School in Newark

NEWARK, NJ -- On January 5th, the Women's Basketball team performed community service at the Burnet Street Elementary/Middle School in Newark. The team members spent part of the day as classroom assistants in grades PreK through 1, helping the students with reading comprehension, writing and geography. They also met with the middle school students, discussing topics that included goal setting, the importance of academics and how the individual team members acquired their athletic scholarships.
Throughout her playing and coaching career, Coach Margaret McKeon has been dedicated to reaching out to elementary/middle school students with the message that defining a passion, such as athletics, setting a goal and making a plan can be a ticket to college and beyond, regardless of financial resources..
"It was hearing just such a message when I was in elementary school that first inspired me, " stated Coach McKeon, "and it is my hope that our student-athletes can inspire some of these kids in the same way."
