Sacred Heart Edges Highlanders, 4-3

NEW HAVEN, CT – The NJIT men’s tennis team opened its 2010 spring season Saturday and were edged by Sacred Heart, 4-3, at Yale University.
Senior Stephen Erickson gave the Highlanders its first singles victory defeating Sacred Heart’s Chris Ujkic, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 at second singles spot. Diego Abreu followed with a three-set win 6-3, 2-6, 10-3 at fourth singles.
Erickson and Cosmin Chiujdea took an 8-3 victory over Sacred Heart’s Kirill Kasaynov and Nick Mazzerese at No. 2 doubles. Freshman Fraser Croad, making his NJIT debut and Dimitri Athans defeated Ujkic and Jinal Shah 8-6 at third doubles earning a point for NJIT.
The Highlanders will return to action on Sunday at 1:30 when they visit nearby Saint Peter’s.
