BETHLEHEM, PA – Captain Umar Saeed finished second overall for NJIT in the Brown Division at the 36th annual Brooks Paul Short Run on the Goodman Campus at Lehigh University Friday afternoon.
The field consisted of 322 runners with competitors from Division I, II, II schools.
Saeed, finished the 8k race clocking in at 25:06. Ricky Flynn of Lynchburg earned the individual championship with a time of 24:43.
Freshman Ben Singleton set a personal-best time of 26:30 finishing 95th while classmate Brian Mendez who has been recovering from injury set a personal-best of his own finishing 98th with a time of 26:32.
Sophomore Dan Sapienza stepped up for the Highlanders and recorded a personal-best with a time of 27:06. Freshman Hilton Gooding crossed the finish line at 27:20.
Other runners representing NJIT were: Joe Ju (233rd; 27:52) and junior Doug Colaizzo (247th; 28:30).
The Highlanders are off until Sunday, October 11 when they host the annual Highlander Invitational at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ. The men will start at 10:30am.
